Why is so important?

We have become addicted to plastic. Single-use plastic products are made wholly or partly of plastic and are typically intended to be used just once or for a short period of time before they are thrown away.

Only 9% of all plastic waste ever produced has been recycled. About 12% has been incinerated, while the rest — has accumulated in landfills, dumps or the natural environment. About half of all of the plastic waste ends up in the oceans.

If current trends continue, our oceans could contain more plastic than fish by 2050.

Wood is a much superior alternative when it comes to disposable cutlery made of plastic that is filling the world’s landfills. Any type of hardwood can be used for making wooden cutlery including birch. The biggest advantage of using wooden cutlery is that it is 100% compostable.
